About the Author

The author was born and educated in England and after working as an insurance broker at Lloyd’s of London, moved to the USA in 1982. Working for one of the largest commercial insurance brokers in the world, he became national COO of the specialty insurance placement division. After the company was acquired in 1997 he stayed with the merged company as mid west regional manager of their commercial placement unit, before leaving to join a national insurance company. His experience as a corporate manager inspired him to write a book on management: "They Made You Boss – Now What?”

During his time in America he has bought and sold property, insured cars and homes, invested in securities, obtained credit cards, and struggled with the tax code. Those experiences made him believe there was a need for a convenient and manageable reference source that would explain the basic terminology used in these processes; the result is this book. Mr. Woan lives in Chicago with his wife and two children.
